After being a little frustrated with the typical interactions on ModelMayhem (“I love your work! Let’s shoot!” followed by eternal silence), I decided to look around to see if there were any other networking avenues. I came across the “app” FStop, which functions like a sort of Tinder for creatives, where you can swipe right on profiles and if you match, set up to shoot.
Shortly after setting up my account, I got a match with Mary- I thought her eyes were captivating and she seemed like a fun person to shoot with (a contortionist? I GOTTA shoot with that!), so I set up a shoot with her for the following week at FD Studios. My goal here was to use four different lighting styles using my existing equipment- a more fashion oriented look, the Annie Leibovitz Softlighter look, the Majestic Casual natural light, and a harder edged light using a widezoom reflector.
I think my instructions to Mary were basically “I’m just gonna take a ton of pictures,” so the fact that she was able to pull off all the shots speaks to her modeling skills.
